Pelican Catch 100 Fishing Kayaks

Built for the Water, Designed to Last

Why Pelican Kayak

Pelican has been manufacturing kayaks and paddlesports equipment in North America for over 50 years. Every kayak that leaves our facility is built to meet real-world fishing conditions not just showroom standards. The Catch 100 series was developed in response to one recurring question from anglers: is there a fishing kayak that is stable enough to stand on, light enough to carry solo, and durable enough to handle years of use without costing over $1,000? The answer is the Catch 100 lineup.

Our manufacturing process uses Ram-X™ Premium a multi-layer polyethylene material that reduces hull weight without sacrificing impact resistance. This is the same material used across our full premium kayak range. The Catch 100 series is not an entry-level product with premium branding. It is a purpose-built fishing platform with a clear target: anglers who fish from lakes, rivers, and coastal flats and want a reliable, no-compromise kayak.

What You Need to Know Before You Buy

The Pelican Catch 100 kayak series is built around practical fishing performance. The hull design prioritizes balance and tracking while maintaining manageable weight for transport and storage. Many anglers use these kayaks for bass fishing, crappie fishing, light inshore trips, and recreational paddling.

Common Uses for the Pelican Catch Series

  • Freshwater lake fishing
  • Small river fishing
  • Pond and reservoir access
  • Dock and shoreline launching
  • Inshore saltwater use
  • Weekend camping trips
  • Recreational paddling

Unlike larger fishing kayaks that require trailers or roof-loading systems with multiple people, the Pelican Catch 100 series remains easier to move and launch solo.

Hull Design and Stability

The Catch 100 series uses a tunnel hull a V-shaped central channel flanked by two pontoon-style sponsons. This configuration does two things:

  1. Creates a wide effective stability base for standing without requiring an excessively wide beam (which would slow the kayak and make paddling harder)
  2. Channels water under the hull in a way that keeps the bow tracking straight with less corrective paddling than a flat-bottom hull

For fishing, this means: you can stand to cast without the kayak rolling, and you can cover water efficiently between spots. The Catch 100 paddles straight with minimal course correction on flat water.

The tunnel hull also makes boarding and re-entry easier than a traditional V-hull design. Getting back into the kayak after wading or after a tip-over in shallow water requires less effort.

Pelican Catch PWR 100

Ram-X™ Premium Material: What It Is and Why It Matters

Ram-X™ Premium is a multi-layer polyethylene compound developed and used exclusively by Pelican. It is not the same as the single-layer HDPE used in most budget fishing kayaks. The multi-layer structure creates a hull that is lighter per square foot, more impact-resistant along the keel and bow, and better at handling UV exposure over years of outdoor storage.

The practical result: a Catch Classic 100 hull that weighs 58 lbs instead of the 70–80 lbs typical of comparable single-layer polyethylene kayaks in the same size class. That 12–20 lb difference is the difference between a one-person car-top carry and needing a second person every single time.

Ram-X™ Premium also resists warping when stored in direct sun. We recommend off-ground storage, but the material handles long-term outdoor exposure better than comparable products in the $500–$1,100 price range.

Where the Pelican Catch 100 Series Performs Best

  • Lakes and reservoirs: The most common use case. Flat water, light chop, bass or walleye fishing, dawn to midday. The Catch Classic 100 is purpose-built for this. The 10-foot length keeps it maneuverable in tight coves and along weed lines where longer kayaks become awkward.
  • Rivers (Class I–II): The Catch 100 series handles slow to moderate river current. The tunnel hull tracks well in moving water. Not recommended for Class III+ whitewater this is a fishing platform, not a river play kayak.
  • Coastal inlets and flats: Saltwater-compatible materials throughout. The Catch PWR 100 and Premium Catch Power 100 are the preferred models for saltwater use due to their sealed battery bays and recessed rod holders that reduce snag points in wind chop. Rinse with fresh water after saltwater use.
  • Ponds and small water: The 10-foot footprint is specifically useful here. In small ponds, a 13–14 foot kayak becomes difficult to turn. The Catch 100 pivots easily in tight quarters.

Seating: Ergocast Classic vs. Ergo360

The seat is one of the first things anglers notice after launch, and one of the main differentiators between Classic 100 and PWR 100 configurations.

  • Ergocast Classic (Catch Classic 100, Catch Mode 100): Two-position seat high and low. High position puts your back upright, improves visibility and casting leverage. Low position centers your weight and is more stable in mild chop. Quick-adjust straps. Mesh back panel for airflow. Compatible with most third-party lumbar add-ons.
  • Ergo360 (Catch PWR 100, Premium Catch Power 100): Sits on a sliding rail system and rotates 360°. The rotation is designed for anglers who fish multiple directions without repositioning the kayak common in tight cover, dock fishing, or when targeting fish that change direction quickly. The sliding rails allow forward/back positioning to trim the kayak’s balance based on gear load.

Both seat systems are removable. Both mount to the same rail standard, so the Ergocast Classic can be swapped for an Ergo360 and vice versa.

Rod Holders, Gear Rails, and Accessory Mounting

Every Catch 100 model ships with flush-mount rod holders positioned behind the seat at a rearward angle. This placement keeps rods out of the casting zone forward while remaining within reach for a quick grab when a fish hits a trolled bait.

The dual accessory rails (standard on all models) accept Pelican’s own rail-mount accessories as well as most standard RAM Mount and YakAttack systems. You can mount a fish finder head unit, action camera, cup holder, or additional rod holder without drilling the hull.

The Premium Catch Power 100 includes a factory-installed fish finder mount plate at the bow pre-positioned at the optimal viewing angle for the seated paddling position.

Weight, Transport, and Storage

The Catch 100 is a car-topper by design. At 58–63 lbs depending on model, one adult can load it onto a roof rack or truck bed. Foam pads or a J-rack work fine. The kayak does not require a trailer.

  • Carrying handles: Bow and stern handles are molded into the hull. Side carry handles are built into the hull midpoint. Solo carry: grip one midpoint handle, tilt the kayak onto your hip, walk it to the water.
  • Storage footprint: 10 feet long, approximately 32–34 inches wide. Stores flat along a garage wall, under a deck, or on a freestanding kayak rack. Does not require a heated storage space Ram-X™ Premium handles temperature cycling.

Maintenance and Durability

The Catch 100 hull requires minimal maintenance:

  • Rinse after saltwater use
  • Store out of direct UV when possible (or apply 303 Aerospace Protectant annually)
  • Inspect drain plug o-ring annually; replacement o-rings are available through Pelican directly

Common questions about dents and hull deformation: minor dents from impact typically self-correct in warm weather (leave in direct sunlight for 30–60 minutes). Structural cracks from high-impact collisions are rare due to Ram-X™ Premium’s flexibility at impact, but are covered under our limited warranty if they occur under normal use.

FAQ About Pelican Kayaks

Is the Pelican Catch 100 good for beginners?

Yes. The stable hull platform and manageable size make it a popular choice for beginner kayak anglers.

Can I stand up in the Catch Classic 100, or do I need the PWR 100 for that?

Both models support standing. The tunnel hull and wide beam are designed specifically for it. Standing stability is not a model-specific feature it is built into the Catch 100 platform. The difference between Classic and PWR 100 is seating, storage, and electronics support, not standing capability. Most anglers over 200 lbs find standing easier on the PWR 100 due to its slightly wider beam, but the Classic 100 supports standing for the majority of anglers.

Is the Pelican Catch 100 good for saltwater fishing, or is it freshwater only?

All Catch 100 models are built with saltwater-compatible hardware and hull material. There are no ferrous metal components in contact with the hull. For regular saltwater use, rinse the kayak with fresh water after every session particularly the seat hardware, rod holder inserts, and hatch latches. The PWR 100 and Premium Power 100 are the better saltwater choices due to sealed storage bays that prevent sand and salt from accumulating in gear cavities.

How does the Catch 100 compare to a longer 12–13 foot fishing kayak?

The tradeoffs are straightforward. A 10-foot kayak is slower in a straight line, turns more easily, and weighs less than a 12–13 foot kayak. For fishing in ponds, small lakes, tight cover, rivers, and dock structures, the 10-foot Catch 100 is easier to use. For open-water lake fishing, paddling long distances, or fishing in conditions with significant wind, a 12–13 foot kayak covers water faster. If your typical fishing involves parking the kayak and fishing one spot, the 10-foot platform is often the better choice. If you paddle 1+ miles to your spots regularly, consider the Catch 120 or 130.

Can I attach a trolling motor to the Catch Classic 100?

The Catch Classic 100 does not have a factory transom bracket for a trolling motor. The PWR 100 and Premium Power 100 are the correct models for motorized setups. Aftermarket transom brackets can be installed on the Classic 100, but this is a user modification not covered under the factory warranty. If you plan to use a trolling motor from the start, buy the PWR 100 it is designed and load-tested for it.

What does the Pelican warranty cover on the Catch 100?

Pelican offers a limited lifetime warranty on the hull against manufacturer defects. This covers cracking or delamination under normal use. It does not cover damage from impact with rocks or submerged objects, UV degradation from improper storage, or modifications to the hull. Seat hardware and accessories carry a one-year warranty. Warranty claims are processed through our customer service team see the Contact page for details. Keep your purchase receipt; it is required for all warranty processing.
